Description
CHARACTERISTICS
Allows to prepare the base for a varnish with a pad, a mattine or a patina on a piece of furniture or an object in order to obtain a good finish by filling the pores of wood. Light wood (maple, lemon).
APPLICATION
On dry wood very well sanded (grain 100 > 180 and 200). Apply the colorless shellac primer either by wick, brush or spray. It can be diluted with either fine alcohol 0300 or thinner 0838.
With the wick: Make a pad by moistening it with fine varnishing alcohol 0300 or with thinner 0838. Soak in FDGL 0561. The application is done either in a long or circular motion. Let dry 1 to 2 hours, then remove and repeat if necessary. This method is mainly used for woods with small pores such as cherry, beech and pear. The last regrainage must be very careful.
With a brush: use a quality “cod tail” brush. Dilute GLSF by 5 to 10% and apply in even, cross-coats. After drying (1 to 2 hours), drain and repeat the operation if necessary. The last de-stemming must be very careful.
Spraying: Dilute FDGL 15 to 20% with our thinner 0838, then apply in 2 or 3 coats depending on the nature of the wood. Grain between each layer.
Filled waxed: The goal is to replace the many layers of wax that have been applied over the years and that give the wood its incomparable patina. Apply GLSF by wicking, brushing or spraying (see ¤ above), then apply our Pore Sealer 0004 wax. Shine with a wool cloth. Wick varnish : After preparing the wood (see ¤ above) apply mattine 0507, 0552 or 0513 with a wick pad or wicking cloth (see FT 0507). Varnishing with a pad: The FDGL eliminates any preparation of the filling with a pumice stone, giving a result that is more or less equivalent (see ¤ above), which saves a lot of time and makes it easier to work on angles, grooves and moldings. Then varnish.
Cleaning of brushes: With methylated spirits 0300 or with thinner 0838. Temperature: 18 to 22°.
